PM Modi Launches Digital India Week

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Digital India Week’ on 1st July at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi to endorse the government’s ambitious Digital India programme which aims to transform India into a digitally empowered economy. The week long celebrations would witness participation of the who’s who of the industry such as Azim Premzi (Wipro Chairman), Sunil Mittal (Bharti Group Chairman), Gautam Adani (Adani Group Chairman), Cyrus Mistry (Tata Group Chairman), Mukesh Ambani (RIL Chairman) among others. Industrialists have showed their support by pledging about Rs. 4.5 lakh crore as investment for various projects related to Digital India programme.

The thrust of the Rs. 1.13 lakh crore Digital India programme is on 3 key areas – providing digital infrastructure to every citizen of the country through high speed data internet connection, using e-governance for promoting ease of doing business and digital empowerment of citizens. In the coming days, the PM would be presenting the government’s roadmap to bring about digital empowerment of the country and reduce the digital divide through a series of programmes such as the Digital locker, MyGov.in, e-health, e-education, etc.

Announcements on several projects are expected in this week with investments to the tune of billions of dollars. E-governance is also an important agenda under this initiative. E-governance has become the new buzz word across the country to reduce corruption. It is the application of Information and Communication Technology to facilitate exchange of information, transaction and services across governments and businesses, bringing in transparency, effectiveness and efficiency. India has one of the largest and fastest growing mobile user base in the world. At a time like this, the use of mobile apps for improving governance is on the rise. Mobile apps could be e-governance game changers. The same thought was highlighted in Mr. Modi’s speech at the inauguration where he stressed on the role of M-governance. MyGov and Swachh Bharat mission would have a mobile app to drive citizen engagement in e-governance.

E-Procurement is expected to see an upliftment among the businesses and governments. We, at C1 India, take pride in playing our part in driving digital transformation of the country through our e-procurement solutions. We have even assisted State governments in the past and are open to working with clients to reform their procurement services through technology and bridge the digital gap.
